Perseverance Quotes

Perseverance quotes are a common theme here at Getinspired365. A lot of our favourite videos feature a level of perseverance. It may be an unlikely marathon runner who summons the courage to finish or an entrepreneur seeing through a business idea against the odds.

Anyone who wants to create something really worthwhile will have had a moment where it seemed impossible. The difference between those who have achieved their goals is that when that moment of impossibility arises they run straight through that wall and smash it down. One of our favourite stories of perserverance, of which there are many, is Team Hoyt. Rick Hoyt was born in 1962 but because of complications during the birth Rick was diagnosed as a quadraplegic with cerabal palsy. Rick, aged 15, told his father that he wanted to participate in a 5-mile benefit run for a Lacrosse player who had sadly been paralysed in an accident. Dick, his father, was a not a long distance runner - far from it in fact - but agreed to push Rick in his wheelchair and together they completed all five miles. After the even Rick admitted to his father that when he's running, it feels "like I am not handicapped."

This realisation was enough for Dick to completely overhaul his life. He went on to complete over 1000 races, including marathons, duathlons and triathlons (6 of them being Ironman competitions). Also adding to their list of achievements, Dick and Rick biked and ran across the U.S. in 1992, completing a full 3,735 miles in 45 days. According to Team Hoyt's website "In a triathlon, Dick will pull Rick in a boat with a bungee cord attached to a vest around his waist and to the front of the boat for the swimming stage. For the biking stage, Rick will ride a special two-seater bicycle, & then Dick will push Rick in his custom made running chair (for the running stage)." Dick and Rick's whole philospihy is "Yes you can." At any point Dick could've given up but he didn't. He perservered. This act has impacted Rick so greatly that he went on to graduate from Boston university and dedicated has gone on to work in a lab to help develop systems to aid communication for people with disabilities.
