Anne Bradstreet was born in 1612 and died at the age of 62. Originally born Anne Dudley, Anne married Simon Bradstreet - the governor of of the Massachusetts Bay Colony - in 1628.
Anne was an influential English Poet and was the first female writer in England's North American colonies to be published. At that time female writers were met with contempt and instead were meant to assume a "housewife" role. Bradstreet however continued to write which led to her reputation as a rebel but ultimately it was the quality of her work that she is so fondly remembered for.
