Biography

Alan Alda was born in 1936 and was born with the name Alphonso Joseph D'Abruzzo. He's a world famous American actor having appeared in shows such as M*A*S*H and more recently as the cranky senator Arnold Vinick in the hit series The West Wing. He's also been nominated for an Academy Award for his supporting role in the film the Aviator - where again he played a senator.

Passionate about technology and science Alda has served as the host of Scientific American Frontiers for 14 years. As well as this he is a founder and member of the advisory board of the Stony Brook university's Alan Alda Center for communicating science and the future of life institute. He's been married for over 50 years and has 3 children.
