Albert Einstein was born 14 March 1879 and died aged 76. He is perhaps the most well known physicist to have ever lived, having developed the general theory of relativity. The theory of relativity is widely considered as one of the two pillars of physics, with the other being quantum mechanics. Einstein visited the USA in 1933, when Hitler came to power, and decided to spend the rest of his life in the US. A winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics, his name has become a byword for genius and impact still felt today.
Einstein could have been the President of Israel. When Israel’s first president, Chaim Weizmann, died, Einstein was offered the position, but he declined.
