ABOUT DENZEL WASHINGTON

Denzel Washington was born in 1954 and is a much loved American actor and filmmaker. He has won two Academy Awards: He won Best Supporting Actor for his role in "Glory" and then picked up the Best Actor award just two years later for his role in "Training Day". He is well known for taking on roles where he portrays real life people - such as Steve Biko in "Cry Freedom", Malcolm X, the boxer Rubin Carter and many others. He's also appeared in a plethora of high octane films produced by individuals such as Jerry Bruckheimer and Tony Scott. Films such as the fore mentioned "Training Day", "Man on Fire", "Taking of Pelham 123" and many more besides these. In 2016 he was the recipient of the lifetime achievement award at the 73rd Golden Globe Awards.

Washington won a Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a Dramatic Movie for his performance in The Hurricane in 2000. In doing so he became the the first black actor to win the award since Sidney Poitier in 1963.
