When you spend all day coaching Little League, teaching ballet, feeding the hungry, building bike trails, or planting the community garden only to hear people turn around and diss your hometown, you're bound to get a little annoyed. But when the people who work like mad behind the scenes to make Camden, N.J., a great place to live got tired of reading and hearing negative things about their city all the time, they didn't get angry. They just decided to make a little music.
Kurt Vonnegut Jr was born in 1922 and died fairly recently aged 84. He was a famous American author who stood the test of time having written over a fifty year period. He published fourteen novels and five plays plus a whole host of short stories. He was born in Indianapolis and as a bright student attended Cornell University only to drop out in 1943 where he went to fight in the Second World War for his country. It was during the war that he was imprisoned in a meat locker of a slaughterhouse which formed the basis of his best selling novel "Slaughterhouse-Five". After the war Vonnegut had three children with his wife and adopted his sister's three sons after she had died of cancer, and her husband died in a train accident. Vonnegut's humorous and satirical writing is still celebrated today.
